Acrobat 8.0 Professional for Print Production

Overview

Graphic Designers and Pre Press Professionals and anyone who needs to know the technical requirements for creating PDFs for High End Commercial Litho and Digital Printing. Attendees with be able to create PDFs from postscript and Distiller and from Adobe Creative Suite Applications and QuarkXpress.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of the chosen operating system (Mac OS X or Windows) and the source application from which PDF files will be created (e.g. QuarkXPress, Adobe InDesign etc). ICC profile and colour knowledge would also useful but not essential.

Course Content

What is Distiller?

PDF/X Standards, PDF/X-4, Pass4Press and ECI specifications.
Distiller Presets and editing and managing PDF setting files covered in depth
Setting up watched folders

Preflighting

Using, managing and editing Preflight Profiles to detect and fix common output problems

Colour conversion

Convert from one colour space to another e.g. RGB to CMYK

Ink manager

Re-map colours from Pantone to CMYK and combine multiple Pantone inks within your file

PDF Optimiser

Versioning, font extraction, image down-sampling and data scrubbing.
Commenting Tools for Proofreading and review
JDF Workflow Overview

PDF corrections

Using the Touchup Text and Touchup Object tools for simple corrections to type and images
Third Party Industrial plug-ins i.e. Enfocus Pitstop (time permitting
